The term Conflict of Interest in research addresses:
When an employee has a significant financial interest in an agency or company that is providing funding for the employee’s research or other University activity.
When the research might directly and significantly affect the financial interest of an employee responsible for the conduct of a research project.
The 9510 form is required for NIH proposals.
For NIH grants, the PI and any Program Project Grant (PPG) project leaders must sign the 9510 form. And, any individuals responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research results for a sponsored project; such as Other Investigators and Key and Other Personnel must also complete the 9510 form. Keep in mind, as in the case of NIH, such persons may or may not be consistent with those listed in the Key Personnel section of the 398 form.
Please Note:
The 9510 Form - Disclosure of Financial Interests Related to Federal and Other Sponsored Projects Adopting the Federal Requirements must be completed, signed, and submitted before the NIH proposal can be mailed. Please Note: An original signature is always preferred, however faxed signatures will be accepted.
This form is not needed for Training Grants.
Be sure that each person covered by the COI guidelines has checked either the "Yes" or "No" box in their appropriate section, and has signed the 9510 form.
If the "Yes" box is checked, an Addendum Form is needed for that individual. The Addendum form can be submitted directly to the Conflict of Interest Office after the proposal has been mailed.
